About Medical Respite
Our Medical Respite beds offer a safe, nurturing environment for individuals experiencing homelessness to recover and recuperate after illness or injury, access health care coordination, and receive 24/7 support from caring professionals.
We also offer Medical Respite at Kahua Kahe Mālie in Ainaloa.
We are pleased to share that HOPE Services Hawaii’s medical respite care program has become certified by The National Institute for Medical Respite Care, a special program of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council! This means that we have completed a rigorous process to demonstrate a high degree of fidelity to nationally recognized
principles, standards, and expectations in the field of medical respite care. You can learn more about our certification here.
We prioritize shelter on vulnerability and need.
HOPE is a proud member of Community Alliance Partners (CAP), a Continuum of Care made up of organizations and allies using a Housing First approach to house and provide follow-up services to our houseless neighbors islandwide.
CAP implemented a Coordinated Entry System (CES) in 2017. This ensures that those who need housing the most receive the first available units. A CES is mandated by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it streamlines the processes for assessing and offering homeless programs and housing. The CES also provides information about service needs and gaps to help communities plan their assistance and identify needed resources.
