Homelessness declines on Big Island, county report shows

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The latest 2024 point-in-time report from the county reveals a decrease in homelessness, with 285 fewer individuals reported compared to the previous year.

This marks a notable 28-percent drop, representing the lowest figures recorded in six years.

The report also highlights a reduction of approximately 25% in homelessness among families and veterans.

County officials credit this progress to ongoing initiatives aimed at tackling homelessness and facilitating the development of affordable housing options for residents.
