Hale Ulu Lehua
In 2025 HOPE opened Hale Ulu Lehua on the campus of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaʻa, to provide high-quality, dignified permanent affordable housing for our kūpuna (seniors) on the Hāmākua Coast.

Partnering with Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Honokaʻa community to bring kūpuna home
HOPE Services Hawaii is excited to share that the former convent and classrooms at Our Lady of Lourdes have transformed into a new permanent supportive housing community for kūpuna overcoming (or at risk of) homelessness, called Hale Ulu Lehua.
What was once classroom space is now 10 comfortable resident bedrooms where kūpuna can live independently and with dignity, along with a reception area, community resource room, and office space to support daily operations.

Residents enjoy and benefit from:
· An expanded and updated kitchen for shared meals and gatherings
· Three renovated bathrooms, including a fully ADA-accessible bathroom
· A new entry ramp
· On-site laundry facilities and a community resource room
· Upgraded plumbing and electrical systems
· Rooms furnished by community sponsors to welcome kūpuna home
Hale Ulu Lehua has given this building new life and is now serving our community by providing safe, supportive housing for those who need it most.
