HOPE Services Hawaii, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness on Hawaiʻi Island by offering a variety of housing-focused services to help our neighbors avoid and overcome homelessness.

We are looking for an intern to help build an educated and compassionate community of support, by sharing accurate information about homelessness and housing insecurity.

During your internship you will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of project deliverables, including graphics, copy, and other published materials you will develop. You will also gain valuable nonprofit, communication, technology, and public relations experience through your responsibilities, which include but are not limited to: assisting with HOPE’s social media and web presence, developing graphic and written content, assisting with event preparation, and/or related tasks. Additionally, you will build connections with stakeholders in the community.

Responsibilities – you will receive training on agency style, branding, and tools as needed (may be modified with written agreement between supervisor and intern):

  • Develop, schedule, and manage social media posts across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok (note: we are currently building our TikTok presence).
  • Assist in monitoring and documenting HOPE’s media coverage.
  • Design digital and print materials such as flyers and brochures.
  • Collaborate on planning campaigns and events, including voter registration drives and awareness campaigns like #HawaiiHousingMonth.
  • Aid in drafting and editing written content, such as letters and campaign materials.
  • Attend virtual meetings with supervisors, team members, and community stakeholders.

Workflow: Since this is a remote internship, most of your work can be completed independently and you can create your own schedule! However, you will have regular contact with your team and Zoom meetings with your supervisor for guidance and check-ins.

Requirements:

  • Compassion and respect for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Dedication to housing as a fundamental human right.
  • Understanding of the culture and geography of Hawai’i Island.
  • Proficiency in written English.
  • Proficiency at Tiktok and Instagram
  • Willingness to learn and utilize tools, software, and platforms (e.g., Canva, Facebook, social media scheduling tools).
  • Access to a computer with internet and ability to participate in Zoom meetings.
  • Age 18 or older

This internship is open to candidates from diverse backgrounds, including students of all majors, career changers, and individuals with spare time and relevant skills seeking to contribute meaningfully. We are a diverse team that includes people who have lived experience with housing insecurity, homelessness, and the justice system, and we encourage students who have lived experience to apply.
